Application: Modeling Traffic In Johnson, Vermont Pt. 1
The data set shown below is from a traffic study performed on Route 15 in downtown Johnson, Vermont. The study was performed over several days. At various times throughout the day, the number of cars passing mile marker 3.67 in both directions over the course of one minute was recorded. For instance, one of the observations was taken at the 80th minute of the day (1:20 am), and only 1 car passed by during the observed minute.
Just as you did when you built your model of the length of the day:
- Click and drag from cell A2 to cell B9 to highlight the data.
- Select Two Variable Regression Analysis from the drop down menu to open the function building tool. You may have to adjust the size of the windows to get a better look at the tool.
- Select a "Regression Model" of type "Sin".
- Copy the model to the graphics pane by clicking the box with an arrow pointing up and out to the right.
