Normal Curve Worksheet
The height of women within the ages of 18 to 24 years old is normally distributed with a mean height of 60 in. and standard deviation of 2.5 in. The normal curve is plotted below.
So far we have used calculations from formulas to answer questions dealing with normal distributions. Here we will use the sliding buttons (a) & (b) to try to answer some questions. Looking at the x-axis of the normal curve, the points labeled A, B, C, D, E, and F are set at unit intervals of the standard deviation above and below the mean. This is just like how we labeled the normal curves in class. For example, points A and B are set at one standard deviation (which is 2.5) above and below the mean, i.e. at 57.5 and 62.5, respectively. Likewise, points C and D are two standard deviations above and below the mean, i.e. at 55 and 65, and E and F are three standard deviations away at 52.5 and 67.5.
