IM1.5.4 Sierra's Comments

Image

Learning Target: We can critique the reasoning of others by agreeing or disagreeing with statements about functions so that we can figure out how to accurately describe them. Sierra looked at the data collected by her two friends and made several of her own observations. Explain why you either agree or disagree with each observation made. Comment

  1. The depth of the water increases and decreases throughout the 120 minutes of floating down the river.
  2. The distance traveled is always increasing.
  3. The distance traveled is a function of time.
  4. The distance traveled is greater during the last ten minutes of the trip than during any other ten minute interval of time.
  5. The domain of the distance/time graph is all real numbers.
  6. The y-intercept of the depth of water over time function is (0,0).
  7. The distance traveled increases and decreases over time.
  8. The water level is a function of time.
  9. The range of the distance/time graph is from [0, 15000].
  10. The domain of the depth of water with respect to time is from [0,120]
  11. The range of the depth of water over time is from [4,5].
  12. The distance/ time graph has no maximum value.
  13. The depth of water reached a maximum at 30 minutes.
Discuss the statements with your partner. You will be asked to report out on at least one statement. Use vocabulary like "I [disagree/ agree] with that statement because ________________".
