Macau 2023 GGR Triggers Extra Expenditure Off-Game

Macau's government chief, Hoi Art Seng (pictured), said on Wednesday that the annual casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) for 2023 was likely to exceed the MOP of $180 billion ($23.29 billion).

Under a new concession agreement with the city's six operators, which took effect in January, casino companies will have to increase their non-gaming and overseas marketing spending commitments of MOP 108.7 billion by up to 20% if Macau's annual GGR reaches or exceeds MOP 180 billion.

On the sidelines of a reception to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Macau's Special Administrative Region, Ho, the city's chief executive, said the GGR had reached MOP 160 billion by November, exceeding the government's earlier estimate of MOP 130 billion.

He added that according to a government press release, annual revenue is expected to exceed MOP 180 billion.

The passing of these limits did not mention any additional out-of-game spending by casino operators in a press release or other comments by Ho.

Macao's GGR in the first 11 months of the year was slightly above MO164.49 billion, up 324.9% from the 2022 comparison period, according to an announcement by the Game Inspection Coordination Bureau, a local regulator. 홀짝게임

Brokerage JPMorgan Securities (Asia Pacific) estimated in a note Monday that Macau's overall December GGR would reach about 17 billion MOPs, or an average of about 550 million MOPs per day, as Macau's gaming revenue is expected to "further rise" for the rest of the year-end holiday.
