Day 3 Geometry ESS
How much is Clifton's budget?
Okolona's budget is 3 times as big as Clifton's. How big is Okolona's budget?
Let's dilate our shape
What are the new dimensions of our shape? Multiply each side length you found on DAY 1 with your scale factor that you decided on. Find Side AB = Side BD = Side CD = Side AC = Side DF = Side BF = Side EF = Side BE = Side ED = by multiplying each original side by your scale factor
Adding up sides AB, BD, CD, AC, DF, and BF will give us the perimeter. Make sure our lengths are in feet before we add up all the sides. (Remember to put our lengths into feet, we multiply our sides by 30)
We'll find the area just like we did yesterday. Find the area of each shape using the formulas from yesterday. Make sure to find the area of the rectangular part of the playground, then the triangular part of the playground and add them together.
Finally, find the price of this new playground we made. Take the perimeter, divide it by 50, then multiply it by $90 to find the price of fencing. Next, take the area, divide by 500, then multiply by $400 to find the cost of the grass. To find the total cost, add the fencing cost and the grass cost together.
Compare the budget from yesterday to the price you found in the previous question. Remember, the budget is only supposed to be 3 times as much as the budget from yesterday. Would this park design work? Why or why not?
