Bernini - Sant'Andrea al Quirinale

In 17th century baroc architecture oval schemes are prominent. As exemplary as the circular tempietto for the renaissance is the Sant'Andrea al Quirinale church by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680). Bernini himself qualified this church among his most perfect works. According to Sylvie Duvernoy the concept of this church is very unclear. The two remaining drawings show the church in a very early and in a late phase of the design proces and don't give a clear answer to the exact scheme. Therefore the construction in the applet below is just approximate.
