Logarithms answer the question: How many of one number do we multiply to get another number?  How many 2's do we multiply to get 8?

We need to multiply three 2's to get 8. This means that the statements below are equal. = log2 8 = 3 This means that: -the number we are multiplying is the base -how often it is used in the multiplication problem is logarithm -the number we want to get is 8
