Translations - "The Kite Runner"

You are going to do a simple animation of the “Kite Runner” using “Translations” or sliding a figure.

The Kite Runner - Animation Frames (using Translation)

The list of the frames in the Kite Runner animation are listed below. You will follow the description of each frame and translate (slide) the pre-image on the graph below. Frame 1: Original Figure (“PRE-IMAGE”). Note: don't have to draw anything Frame 2: “The Runner Jumps” - All points from the previous image are translated 13 units to the right and 9 units up. Frame 3: “The Runner Stands” - All points are translated from the previous image are translated 14 units to the right and 9 units down. Frame 4: “The Kite Flies Away - Part I” - ONLY KITE and ROPE POINTS from the previous image translate 5 units to the right and 3 units up (The Runner doesn’t mover) Frame 5: “The Kite Flies Away - Part II” - ONLY KITE and ROPE POINTS from the previous image translate 6 units to the right and 5 units up.

  • Go back to your graph and select any angle of the arms or legs of the "Pre-Image". Use the icon Toolbar Image and select 3 points of the angle you picked to measure its size.
  • Zoom in your graph as needed to make your work easier.
  • Find ALL the corresponding angles* in the other images you made and measure their sizes as well.
*corresponding angles are angles that are located in the same relative position within each figure. What do you notice? Describe.

  • Go back to your graph and select the upper or lower arm of the kite runner in the "pre-image". Use the icon Toolbar Image and select the line segment you picked to measure its length.
  • Zoom in your graph as needed to make your job easier.
  • Find ALL the **corresponding (arm) line segments in the other images you made and measure their length.
***corresponding sides are sides that are located in the same relative position within each figure. What do you notice? Describe.
