Friday Mosque Isfahan souteast iwan
The Friday Mosque of Isfahan shows a long and rich building history from the 8ste until the 18e century, offering an overview of constructive and decorative solutions in Islamic architecture. In the muqarnas too you can see many differences.
Although the southwest iwan looks complex with the division in two parts, the muqarnas in both parts are realised with just the common shapes of the square family.
With a 10-pointed star in the front part and a pentagon in the back part more variation and irregular shapes appear in the muqarnas of the northwest iwan.
The zuideast iwan finally shows the same evolution as in the development of geometrical patterns, combining different kind of stars in one design. Only when counting the number of points in the drawing of Shiro Takahashi one notices that the designer combines in a virtuose way 4-, 5-, 7, 8-, 10, and 22-pointed stars in one design.
