Create a Tangent to a Circle Through a Given Point Outside the Circle
1) Use the Segment tool
to connect the center of the circle to the point outside the circle.
2) Find the midpoint of that line segment (remember that you find the midpoint by bisecting the segment).
3) Use the Compass tool
to create a circle centered at that midpoint with a radius equal to the distance from that midpoint to the center of the circle.
4) Use the Intersect tool
to mark the point where the new circle and the original circle intersect.
5) Use the Line tool
to draw a line through that intersection point and the original point outside of the circle.
6) Use the Segment tool
to connect the point created in step 4 with the center of the original circle.
7) Use the Angle Measure tool
to verify that the line created in step 5 is a tangent.
