Task

Create a cross section of a cone. Explore the construction and learn how to create a cross section by intersecting a cone and a plane with GeoGebra 3D Calculator. Then try it yourself by following the instructions below.

Instructions

1. Open the Tools View.
2.Toolbar ImageSelect the Point tool and create points A=(0,0,0) and B=(0,0,4).
3.Toolbar ImageSelect the Cone tool, select first the bottom point A, then the top point B and enter 3 in the appearing dialog for the radius.
4.Toolbar ImageSelect the Move tool and explore your constructed cone.
5.Toolbar ImageSelect the Point tool and create 3 new points C, D and E (one point on every axis).
6.Toolbar ImageSelect the Plane through 3 Points tool and select the points C, D and E.
7.Toolbar ImageSelect the Move tool and drag the points to change the plane.
8.Toolbar ImageSelect the Intersect Two Surfaces tool and then select the cone and the plane.
 Note: If you're using the GeoGebra 3D Calculator Online App, you can also explore your construction in the 2D View. Click on the plane, select the More button to open the context menu and select Create 2D view from d to explore the cross section in the 2D View.
