This is an answer to a problem which arose in the video "Milling convex circular surface of a large radius" by Thang010146. The video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/U-s8wlhxcnE The problem: Is the milling surface actually a circular arc? Answer: Well... no, but also yes. For all configurations of the mechanism, no. The arc it produces is an approximation of the circle, but is rather a limaçon. However, within the family of limaçon curves do exist circles! For this mechanism to produce a circle, the milling points must meet up at the point of intersection between the two blue guides. Hopefully this settles it...!
