1.4: Constructing Angles

DIRECTIONS:

Complete the following tasks: 1) Use the RAY Toolbar Image tool to construct a ray with endpoint A that passes through B. 2) From this ray, construct another ray using the same vertex point A that passes through C. 3) Next measure the angle you created using the ANGLE tool. 4) Now we will create an angle (with vertex = endpoint of this ray) whose measure is the same as angle you created. To do this first create another RAY Toolbar Image. Then select the ANGLE WITH GIVEN SIZE Toolbar Image tool. Select in order the point on the ray, then the vertex, and then enter the value for the angle measure. Further directions appear below the applet.

Quick (Silent) Demo

5) Do the sides of the angle have to be the same length?

6) Create a triangle. Measure all three angles.

7) What is the sum of the three angles inside the triangle?

8) Manipulate the triangle to change the angle measures. What is the new sum of the three angles?
