Grand Korea Leisure Inc. (GKL), a Korean game operator, said Friday that its casino sales fell in May from a year earlier. The company reported that casino sales fell 2.9 percent year-on-year to W39.43 billion that month.
On a month-over-month basis, casino sales were flat in May compared to April.
The year-on-year drop in casino sales came as table game sales fell 5.1 percent in May to nearly 33.76 billion won. In a filing with the Korea Exchange, the company said machine game sales rose 13.3 percent year-on-year to about 5.67 billion won.
GKL's May results contrast with sales recently announced by its market rival Paradise Inc. Paradise Inc. said Tuesday that casino sales rose 18.5% year-on-year to 61.43 billion won in May.
GKL is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea. The casino operator, under the Seven Luck brand, runs three foreigner-only casinos in Korea, two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.

Table game sales fell 8.6% to about 162.5 billion won during the period, while machine game sales remained flat at 24.53 billion won.
GKL said its first-quarter net profit halved last month to less than 8.46 billion won. GKL said its first-quarter revenue was down 10.5% year-over-year.
