rectangular vs polar (1)

Freely drag the point P. Observe the relation among its rectangular coordinates and polar coordinates. Use the top left calculator to check how these values how are related. If you hide some of these values, can they be found from the rest? The idea of polar coordinates is meaningful behind the definition of trigonometric ratios. Even if we are not explicitly teaching polar coordinates, we can still highlight the usefulness of converting between the rectangular coordinates and information about distance and direction. This conversion is the basis of meaningful practice in simple calculation with trigonometric ratios.

This video shows how I make this applet.
