Intuitive derivative

Drag points A, B, C, D, and E up or down. The movement of each of these points will control the slope of the corresponding slope segments. Notice: the slopes are numerically equal to the -coordinate of the controlling point. Drag points A, B, C, D, and E so that the slope segments are tangent to the given curve. When you are satisfied that your segments are tangent, click on the SHOW DERIVATIVE button. If you have done this correctly, points A, B, C, D, and E will lie on this derivative curve.
