Cross sections of a cone
Task
Create a cross section of a cone.
Explore the construction and learn how to create a cross section by intersecting a cone and a plane with 3D in GeoGebra Calculator Suite. Then try it yourself by following the instructions below.

Instructions
1. | | Open the Tools View. |
2. | | Select the Point tool and create points A=(0,0,0) and B=(0,0,4). |
3. | | Select the Cone tool, select first the bottom point A, then the top point B and enter 3 in the appearing dialog for the radius. |
4. | | Select the Move tool and explore your constructed cone. |
5. | | Select the Point tool and create 3 new points C, D and E (one point on every axis). |
6. | | Select the Plane through 3 Points tool and select the points C, D and E. |
7. | | Select the Move tool and drag the points to change the plane. |
8. | | Select the Intersect Two Surfaces tool and then select the cone and the plane. |
| | Note: If you're using the GeoGebra 3D Calculator Online App, you can also explore your construction in the 2D View. Click on the plane, select the More button to open the context menu and select Create 2D view from d to explore the cross section in the 2D View. |

Augmented Reality
If you're using the 3D Calculator in GeoGebra Calculator Suiteon a mobile device you can switch to AR mode to place your created math objects on any flat surface (e.g. table, floor, ...) around you and walk around them. Explore your constructions from a new perspective!
