Activities/Procedure
Instructions
Teacher lecture with the presentation, videos. Students will take notes throughout the lesson. Students will be placed in skills groups to complete the following tasks:
Task 1: Concept Map-Draw.ioTalk with your partner about what works well for you using the concept map strategy. What is still unclear for you with this strategy? Call on groups to share responses. List what works well and the items that are unclear. Discuss those things that are working well and answer all questions concerning the strategy. Have each student explain how they used the concept map to develop the definitions of triangle centers and hand it in for teacher review. These written definitions and explanations will receive feedback from the teacher and students will know what they need to do to improve their work and will work in groups or individually.
Task 2: Geogeobra Constructions:
- The centroid of a triangle is constructed by taking any given triangle and connecting the midpoints of each leg of the triangle to the opposite vertex. The line segment created by connecting these points is called the median. The centroid is the center of a triangle that can be thought of as the center of mass.
- The orthocenter is the center of the triangle created from finding the altitudes of each side. The altitude of a triangle is created by dropping a line from each vertex that is perpendicular to the opposite side. In a right triangle, the orthocenter falls on a vertex of the triangle.
- The circumcenter is the center of the circle such that all three vertices of the circle are the same distance away from the circumcenter. Thus, the circumcenter is the point that forms the origin of a circle in which all three vertices of the triangle lie on circle.
