Vertical Stretches & Compressions of the Graph
We are going to study vertical stretches and compressions for functions. The graph in blue is the parent function y = f(x) = x². The graph in green is g(x) = af(x), which represents a vertical stretch or compression depending on the value "a."
To value of slider "a" is originally set to be 1.
To create a vertical stretch or compression, slide the value of "a" to the left or right.
Do you recognize a relationship between the parent function and the transformation based on the value of "a"?
