Macau welcomed nearly 93,000 visitors on Tuesday (Dec. 26), receiving about 455,500 visitors in the four-day period from Dec. 23 (Sat) to Tuesday, or about 113,900 visitors a day.
The city had more than 362,600 visitors from Dec. 23-25, according to previously published data.
The period, which is related to the Christmas season, is not a public holiday in mainland China, which is the main source market for Macau tourists. Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 are public holidays in Hong Kong, usually the second best source market for visitors to Macau.
The daily average for all visitors over the four-day period held up well compared to the previous peak tourist season in Macau, an eight-day period that includes China's National Day in the fall. Official data showed daily visitor arrivals averaged 116,546 during the previous festive season.
Macau received an average of just over 97,000 visitors a day in the seven days of Dec. 20-26, according to data from Macau's public security police.
Prospective Macau government officials did not specify the origin of all arrivals.
However, during the seven days ending Dec. 26, most tourists entered Macau via the border gate checkpoint between Macau and mainland China (25,414 arrivals, 33.2 percent of the population) or the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (202,432 arrivals, 29.8 percent). The third most popular entry point was Hengqin Port (76,253 arrivals, 11.2 percent) in mainland China. 홀짝게임
Representatives from the gaming and travel sector told GGRAsia they expect large numbers of visitors to the city over the holiday season despite the relatively cold weather in southern China ahead of the Christmas season.
