Perpendicular Bisector (and Midpoint) Constructions
Follow these steps to construct perpendicular bisectors
1) Using the COMPASS TOOL, create a circle with radius AB and center point A
2) Using the COMPASS TOOL, create a circle with radius AB and center point B
3) Using the POINT TOOL, mark points C and D where circle A intersects circle B
3) Using the SEGMENT TOOL, connect points C and D
4) Using the POINT TOOL, mark point E at the intersection of segments AB and CD
5) Using the ANGLE TOOL, show that AB and CD are perpendicular
6) Using the DISTANCE TOOL, show that E is the midpoint of AB, which is to say that AB was bisected (split into two congruent segments) by CD
RESULTS: Segment CD is the Perpendicular Bisector of segment AB
Point E is the Midpoint of segment AB
