Interval and Set Notation Practice

Activity to visualize the different ways of representing intervals / rays:
  • visual representation on the number line
  • in set notation (i.e. as an inequality)
  • in interval notation
Objects that can be changed in the activity:
  • You can click to change between an interval (bounded on both ends) to a ray (bounded on one end)
  • You can shift the endpoints of your interval/ray
  • You can click on the endpoints to change whether they are not included in the interval (open circle) or included in the interval (closed circle)
  • The red point X is any point on the interval/ray; you can move it to change the direction of the ray (left of the endpoint or right of the endpoint).
