Introduction to Geogebra Tools

Name:

What is Geogebra?

Geogebra is an on-line software that allows students to explore geometric concepts and see how Algebra and Geometry relate to one another. We can use the measurement tools in Geogebra to explore the characteristics and properties of geoemetic figures. You will be using it to explore the family of quadrilaterals.

Exploration 1: Lines and Segments (6 pts)

Use the point tool to plot the following points. A(1,3); B(6,-2); C(-5,-4) and D(0,3). Use the line tool to create line AB. Use the segment tool to create segment CD.

A. Use the measurment tool to find CD.

B. Use the slope tool to find the slope of segment CD.

C. Use the slope tool to find the slope of line AB.

Exploration 2: Angles (20 points)

Plot the following points to make ABC. A(-5,-3); B(-3,-2); C(-5,-1). Create Rays BA and BC.

A. What type of angle appears to have been created by the two rays? What do you know about the possible measurement of this specific type of angle?

B. Use the angle measurement tool to find mABC

Plot the following points to make ABC. A(2,4); B(2,1); C(5,1). Create Rays BA and BC.

A. What type of angle appears to have been created by the two rays? What do you know about the possible measurement of this specific type of angle?

B. Use the angle measurement tool to find mABC

C. Use the slope measurement tool to find the slope of the two rays. What happens when you try to find the slope of ray BA. Why do you think this happens true? What relationship do the slopes have? Justify your answer.
