Try the following and record the answers on your answer key. Also, record how many boxes were cancelled out if any:
1. -7 + 3
2. 8 + (-6)
3. 3 + (-8)
4. -5 + 2
(If this were a real classroom I would use four-five problems of each type: (+)+(+), (+)+(-), (-)+(+), and (-)+(-).)
On your answer sheet record any patterns that you have noticed.
