Dilations Intro

In the diagram below, a dilation maps triangle ABC to triangle A'B'C'. The side lengths of the preimage and image are given. Move around the vertices of the preimage as well as point D (which we will call the center of dilation) to observe various examples.

In your own words, describe a dilation.

Do you think a dilation is a rigid motion? Why or why not?

Identify the corresponding side lengths of the preimage and image (ex: segment AB and segment A'B'). Compare the corresponding side lengths of the preimage and image. What do you notice?
