Vector Components

Drag the point at the tip of the vector to change the magnitude and the direction. Any vector you give me, I claim, can be written as the sum of two vectors and , called the x- and the y-component of vector , respectively. There is nothing you can throw at me in the plane that I won't be able to describe as some number (a scalar, without an arrow above the letter) in the x-direction and some number in the y-direction.

Question:

From the above example, write the rule to add vectors and the rule to add scalars.
