408 - Riemann Sums Activity

Approximating Area Under the Curve

Instructions 1) Pick a polynomial function (3rd degree or higher) and interval of your choice Note: The graph of your function MUST be above the x-axis within your interval 2) Using Geogebra, approximate the area under the curve using all 4 methods (Left, Right, Midpoint, and Trapezoids) Note: Keep the number of rectangle less than or equal to 24 3) Take a screenshot of your "best" approximation and explain why you think this is the best method for your function? 4) Repeat the process for a trigonometric function. Feel free to zoom in/out if necessary. You will submit 4 pictures/files: 2 screenshoots of the functions (polynomial and trig) and 2 explanations. Since there are infinitely many functions/interval to choose from, I expect everyone to submit authentic work.
