Macau chief executive Fernando Cui Sion (pictured) said cash handouts for permanent and non-permanent residents in 2015 would only be decided after closing this year's accounting process.
Cui said the government would reconsider sharing the fruits of Macao's economic development with Macao residents in line with this year's fiscal surplus.
The government expects cash payments to cost $5.65 billion ($777.3 million) this year. More than 590,000 permanent residents received MOP9,000 and more than 61,000 temporary residents received MOP5,400 respectively.
The amount paid to individuals this year is the highest since cash payments began in 2008.
The government, however, said the determinant of the payments was the size of the government's annual fiscal surplus, not the annual gradual increase in payments. This year, the surplus growth may be smaller than in previous years due to slower casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) growth.
Macau's government collected a total of $90.9 billion in direct taxes from games in the first eight months of 2014.
Data from Macau's Financial Services Bureau showed the figure was up 11.1% from the same period a year ago, slower than the growth rate in the first half of this year, which reached 16%.
This comes as casino GGR growth has been declining since June, with a year-over-year decline of 11.7% to 25.6 billion MOPs in September.
The gaming tax imposition through Aug. 31 represents 77.1% of the government's MOP target of $117.85 billion for all gaming direct tax revenues in 2014.
Direct taxes from gaming accounted for 85.0% of Macau's government's total revenue in the first eight months of 2014. With the Macau casino industry booming, gaming taxes have become increasingly important to Macau's government in recent years.
Total government revenue for the first eight months of 2014 was $106.9 billion. Government spending was $34.9 billion, and Macau ended the period with a surplus of $72.4 billion, up 6.4 percent year-on-year. In the first eight months of 2013, the government surplus was up 30.3 percent year-on-year. 카지노사이트
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Cui said he was not worried about the situation, although he noted that the GGR was down nearly 12% year-on-year last month. The city's chief executive said the gaming industry was now entering a "time of adjustment" after growing quickly in recent years.
