Theory

You now should know a few basics about chemistry: That everything is made out of different substances with different properties like colour, taste and so forth. These properties are used to find out more about the substances. At university there are a lot of different ways to further look at the properties of substances. If you want to learn more about the different methods of this so-called Analytic Chemistry, look at this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_chemical_analysis_methods A chemical reaction is a process in which substances react with each other yielding a new type of compound. If you want to learn more about different kinds of reactions, click on the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_reaction Materials often aren't made of one substance but out of many. If you want to learn more about different ways of separation, click on the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_process

What do you have to do?

Now you have to decide in which direction to continue! You can either decide to continue with "Acid and Bases" where you first have to extract a dye from red cabbage that you can use as an indicator in further experiments. Or you can look at metals, ions and complexes where you first have to put iron filings into vinegar essence. The choice is yours, don't get lost in the maze!
