4 layers

We take the 2-layer construction of previous activity adding 2 supplementery layers. Discover with the buttons of the navigation bar how layers are built up to form a half dome. The arrows of the vectors lead from bottom to the apex.

from tiling to muqarnas

In next applet you see a tiling, based on squares and rhombuses. Click on the arrows of the navigation bar and show stepwise polylines on the tiling. You see that tiling and polyline macht the top view of the muqarnas. In other words, you can analyse and represent muqarnas as a tiling. And the other way round, you can design muqarnas starting from a tiling. In the drawing below you notice that the differend tiers are formed by intersecting a serie of polygons of the same shape by a polyline:
  • rhombuses are divided into bipeds and almonds over layer 0 and 1,
  • squares are divided into large bipeds and jugs over layer 0 and 1,
  • rhombuses are divided into bipeds and almonds over layer 2 and 3.
