Mohammed Rakhim Khan Madrasa - gp
As many monuments in Khiva the Mohammed Rakhim Khan Madrassa (1871-76) dates from the 19th century. It's opposite of the Kukhna Ark, the fortress of Khiva.
The spandrel of the west iwan is decorated by a geometrical pattern, which is rather rare in Khiva, where floral patterns form the large majority.
The 19th century isn't known for its most ambitious star patterns.
The pattern on the spandrel is built up only out of hexagons.
In it the mids of the edges aren't connected. The top angle of the stars is widened so that the polygons between the stars don't form regular hexagons.
Notice again that the sizes of the glazed tiles don't match with the pattern, that runs over the borders of the tiles.
