4.4 Exploration, example #2
Directions
For examples #1 & 2, you will perform a double reflection over two lines that are parallel to each other. Use the applet to perform the given double reflection. After, answer the questions to deduce a pattern for a generic double reflection over parallel lines.
Example #2
- Trace over the triangle with the polygon tool
- Use the line tool to add in the lines y = 3 and y = -2
- Reflect the triangle over the line y = 3
- Reflect the image over the line y = -2
Things to consider
Were your conjectures from the first example correct? If not, what prediction did you revise after this example?
Conclusion
Use your results to examples #1 & 2 to answer the following questions:
- A double reflection over parallel lines is the same as what transformation?
- How does the distance between parallel lines of reflection compare to the magnitude (size) of the transformation?
- How do you determine the direction of this transformation?
