studying, drawing and constructing muqarnas

joining background and skills

Henk Hietbrink and Chris Cambré (Belgium) brought their complementary background and skills together to work on muqarnas. This cooperation led to develop macro's to draw a 2D muqarnas plan and a 3D muqarnas construction, piling tiles and units in the online interface of the math software of GeoGebra. On this page you can find links some of their separate and joined work.

Working on muqarnas in workshops with 3D printed muqarnas units

For years Henk Hietbrink (Netherlands) works on moqarnas with 3D printed units. On his website you can read on his workshops in schools and see some analysis of muqarnas in plans and constructions.

Introduction to muqarnas

Chris Cambré (Belgium) used the interface of GeoGebra to combine photographical material with drawings in an online GeoGebrabook as an introduction to muqarnas.

When Henk and Chris met each other, they focused on the book of Fatin Uluengin on muqarnas recreating stepwise constructions with GeoGebra.

The next step Henk and Chris took was to search whether it was possible to use GeoGebra to create an interactive applet in which it would be possible to create 2D plans and 3D constructions. First they managed to create GeoGebra macro's for the different basic figures in a muqarnas.

Then they start to experiment with the macro's to build models of existing muqarnas. Here's a first collection of experiments Henk created with them.
