In this lesson, you're going to learn how to convert DECIMALS to PERCENTS and vice versa.
FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE RULES:
1. To change decimals to percents, move the decimal point two places to the right and affix the percent sign.
2. To change percents to decimals, move the decimal point two places to the left and remove the percent sign.
Sometimes, you get confused about which direction to move the decimal point.
A simple trick is to write D (decimals) and P (percents) in ALPHABETICAL order. Then, if you're converting decimals to percent, draw an arrow pointing from D to P and that is the direction to which you move the decimal point. Do the opposite when converting a percent to a decimal.
Examples:
Convert 0.56 to a percent.
D → P
0.56 = 56%
Convert 1.2 to a percent.
D → P
1.2 = 120%
Convert 25% to a decimal.
D ← P
25% = 0.25
Convert 1.7% to a decimal.
D ← P
1.7% = 0.017
