Spheres

What are the volume and surface area of the solid?

Find the surface area and volume of a sphere with a diameter of 18.3 m. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

Find the radius, diameter, and volume of a sphere with a surface area of 4π square feet.

Find the surface area and volume of a hemisphere with a diameter of 10 m. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

Find the surface area and volume of a sphere with a circumference of 20 cm. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

Your friend claims that if the radius of a sphere is doubled, then the surface area of the sphere will also be doubled. Is your friend correct? Explain your reasoning.

Real world

In highly simplified terms terms the diagram above shows a conceptual cross section of a regular engine's cylinder next to a hemi cylinder for the same size engine. The hemi gets its name from the hemispherical shape at the top of the cylinder. The width of each cylinder is the same. We will use a width (known as the bore) of 4 inches for our purposes. The heights are also the same. We will use an effective height (known as the stroke) of 3.5 inches. Assuming all smooth surfaces and perfectly cylindrical and hemispherical parts, What are the volume and surface area for the regular piston vs the hemi piston?
