BPW Inv 4.1C - Focus on Dilations
If you have been assigned a book, open your Butterflies, Pinwheels and Wallpaper book, do the dilation instructed on Inv 4.1 Part C on p. 78
- Use the to find the following tools: area tool , angle tool , and length tool to measure the area, all lengths and all angles of blue polygon RAPS.
- Then use the polygon tool to connect each point in order R-A-P-S-R, this will highlight your shape.
- Use the dilation tool (found under the transformations tab ) to dilate your polygon. Click the center of your polygon, then the origin (0,0) and use scale factor 0.5 (or 1/2).
- Use the to find the area tool , angle tool , and length tool to measure each area, all lengths and all angles of the new scaled polygon.
- Screenshot your shape and its image in your Google Doc after completing all measurements.
- How do the side lengths of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to those of quadrilateral RAPS?
- How do the angle measures of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to those of quadrilateral RAPS?
- How does the perimeter of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to that of quadrilateral RAPS?
- How does the area of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to that of quadrilateral RAPS?
- How do the slopes of the sides of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to the slopes of the sides of quadrilateral RAPS?
- What rule of the form (x, y) → (, ) shows how coordinates of corresponding points are related under a dilation with center (0, 0) and scale factor 12?
