BPW Inv 4.1C - Focus on Dilations

If you have been assigned a book, open your Butterflies, Pinwheels and Wallpaper book, do the dilation instructed on Inv 4.1 Part C on p. 78
  1. Use the Toolbar Image to find the following tools: area toolToolbar Image , angle tool Toolbar Image , and length tool Toolbar Imageto measure the area, all lengths and all angles of blue polygon RAPS.
  2. Then use the polygon toolToolbar Image to connect each point in order R-A-P-S-R, this will highlight your shape.
  3. Use the dilation tool Toolbar Image (found under the transformations tab Toolbar Image ) to dilate your polygon. Click the center of your polygon, then the origin (0,0) and use scale factor 0.5 (or 1/2).
  4. Use the Toolbar Image to find the area tool Toolbar Image , angle tool Toolbar Image, and length tool Toolbar Image to measure each area, all lengths and all angles of the new scaled polygon.
  5. Screenshot your shape and its image in your Google Doc after completing all measurements.
Answer all these questions from Part C in your Google Doc.
  1. How do the side lengths of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to those of quadrilateral RAPS?
  2. How do the angle measures of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to those of quadrilateral RAPS?
  3. How does the perimeter of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to that of quadrilateral RAPS?
  4. How does the area of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to that of quadrilateral RAPS?
  5. How do the slopes of the sides of quadrilateral R'A'P'S' compare to the slopes of the sides of quadrilateral RAPS?
  6. What rule of the form (x, y) → () shows how coordinates of corresponding points are related under a dilation with center (0, 0) and scale factor 12?
