Jenna's Birthday Cake
This resource focuses on learning how to take a single unit and gradually cover the area of it by overlapping the area with the needed amount of units. By using the cake as a visualization for a plane figure, you will learn how to cover it with individual pieces. You will learn to count the squares that make up the full cake and know that the unit squares is said to have an area of n square units.
Amanda is throwing her friend Jenna a birthday party. Amanda wants to bake a cake for Jenna. Amanda can't figure out how many pieces to cut out of the cake. In order for the guests to each have an equal piece you must help Amanda to find the area of cake by counting how many individual pieces fit inside the full cake.
