Constructing Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
Constructing a Perpendicular Line to a Given Line Through a Point on the Line
1. Place a point (D) between points A and C
2. Use the compass tool to measure the distance between D and C and draw a circle with center C
3. Use the intersection tool (option under the point A icon) to label the intersection of the circle with line AB (point E)
4. Place a point (F) between points C and E
5. Use the compass tool to measure the distance between D and F and draw a circle with center D. Repeat to draw a circle with center E
6. Mark the intersection points of the circle above and below point C (points G and H)
7. Draw a line between G and H. This line is perpendicular to AB!
8. Take screen shots of your work

Your Turn:
Now it is your turn. Complete each construction below.
Apply what you learned in the construction above and what you know about performing these constructions with a straightedge and compass to complete them.
Take screen shots of your work!
Hint: For both constructions you will need to place an additional point on line AB in order to construct a circle to start.
