Triangle Creator
Task 1
Practice moving and rotate the segments below.
Try and line up the red green and blue points to create a triangle.
Move the segments
All 3 points lined up can look like this
Task 2
Move the angles to create a triangle.
The colored points can be dragged to move the vertex of the angle.
The black circles can be dragged to change the direction of the angle.
You can line up the black circles with the other points to create a triangle like shown below.
Triangle Creator
If you line up all 3 angles it should look like this
Task 3
Below you have 3 segments of fixed length and 3 angles of fixed degrees.
Angle A is 40 degrees.
Angle B is 20 degrees.
Angle C is 120 degrees.
Segment AB is 5 centimeters.
Segment AC is 2 centimeters.
Segment BC is 3.7 centimeters.
Drag and rotate these segments and angles to create triangle ABC, similar to what I show below.
Triangle Creator
Me using all 3 sides and all 3 angles to create a triangle.
Questions to consider during and after you create triangle ABC: 1. Did you need all 6 pieces of the triangle to create triangle ABC?
2. What pieces did you use to create triangle ABC?
3. Are there any other combinations of segments and angles that can create the triangle?
Question 4
What is the minimum number of segments and angles you need to create the outline of the triangle?
Triangle Congruence
We know segments and angles are congruent if the measures of two segments or angles are the same. We can determine if shapes are congruent if all of the corresponding angles and segments that make up a shape are also congruent.
Drag the segments from the left triangle over to the right triangle to see if the sides have the same length and if the triangles are congruent.
Move the segments
Question 5
Do the segments overlap and are the triangles congruent?
