11/5/20 Ch 4.5 dilations
Steps to dilate
1. Graph the original shape. ( In problems 1-4 this step is done for you)
2. multiply each coordinate point by the scale factor k
3. Plot the new points and connect them with line segments. Done!
Example: graph (1,-2), (1, -4), (5, 3) and dilate by k=2
When you dilate: (1*2, -2*2), (1*2, -4*2), (5*2, 3*2) =(2, -4) (2, -8) (10, -6)
example 2: graph triangle (12, 3) (12, 9) (6, 6) and dilate k = 1/3
When you dilate (12/3, 3/3) (12/3, 9/3) (6/3, 6/3) = (4, 1) (4, 3) (2. 2)
1. Graph the triangle (2, 3) (5, 1) (5, 3) and dilate k = 3
2. Graph the square (-16, 4) (-12, 0) (-8, 4) (-12, 8) and dilate k = 1/4
3. Graph the rectangle (1, -2) (7, -2) (7, -6) (1, -6) and dilate k = 2
4. Graph the triangle (-18, -6) (-15, -12) (-12, -6) and dilate k = 1/3
5. Graph the rectangle (2, 2) (2, 6) (4, 6) (4, 2) and dilate k=2
6. Graph the triangle ( -8, 4) (-16, 12) (-20, 8) and dilate k= 1/4
7. graph the shape (-4, -1) (-4, -5) (3, -3) and dilate k = 2
8. graph the shape (0, 2) (-3, -2) (0, -5) (3, -2) and dilate k = 2
