Promoting creative thinking with GeoGebra in everyday lesson

Abstract

Traditional ways of teaching have leaded us to emphasize repetition and training when learning Maths.  Most of assessments are focused on that too, so sometimes is hard to recognise how important is to promote creativity and non-structured learning in Mathematics classrooms. GeoGebra is a creativity environment by itself, and it challenges us to discover another type of Maths when ‘playing’ with it in certain ways. But maybe it is not easy to fit these new tasks into everyday lessons, because their potential is not so obvious for everyone. In this communication we will share a few classroom experiences in which we tried to promote meaningful learning outcomes. One set of tasks encouraged students to create animated files according to certain guidelines. Another set offered students already made files with a carefully prepared worksheet to guide the interaction.
