Dilations Exploration

Let's explore what happens when you change the Scale Factor, change the Center, and show the Dilation Rays. We will not focus on the Coordinates of the PreImage and Image. You may find them helpful.

1. Scale Factor. Determine which numbers create an image that is bigger; smaller; or stays the same. Type in the following numbers and record your findings. Scale factor = 0.5 0.9 1.0 2.2 3.0 2. Center. Start with the Center on the axis. What do you notice?    Move the Center to point B. What do you notice?    Move the Center to a point on .  What do you notice?    Move the Center to the inside of ABC. What do you notice? 3. Dilation. Click on the Show Dilation Rays button.    Repeat the moves from #2.  What do you notice each time?
