Ferris Wheel
The center of a Ferris wheel is 30 feet above the ground. The radius of the wheel is 25 feet. The wheel completes a full revolution every 20 seconds.
The height of the red chair changes over time.
- Select Original Parameters and press the play button. Write down how the ferris wheel and the graph relate.
- Now press pause and set new parameters by changing the height radius and seconds per revolution. Select New Parameters box and press play. What did you change your parameters to and how do they compare to the first graph?
- Suppose you change some of the features of the Ferris wheel. How do these changes impact the graph? How do they impact the equation? Write down your observations; should include amplitude, midline and period.
- The height of the center of the wheel
- The radius of the wheel
- The time required for the wheel to complete one revolution
