Parallel: Two or more lines that lie in the same plane and never intersect.

The two lines above look like they are curved, but that is an optical illusion . The two lines are actually straight. We can't tell if two lines are parallel just by looking at them, so in math, we use special markings to communicate when two lines are parallel.

To show that lines are parallel, arrows are used as is the example above.
