Copy of angles in a triangle (zoom)

ACTIVITY GOAL:

In this activity, the objective is to understand the relationship that exists among the 3 angles and the 3 sides.  You will make several different triangles based on an exact angle and/or side length.

TRIANGLE #1

Create a new triangle ABC so that...
  •  A = 60 degrees
  •  B = 60 degrees
  •  C = 60 degrees
  • "a" = 8
  • "b" = 8
  • "c" = 8
Explain Clearly in Steps How You Created This Triangle.  What did you do to reduce the angle A?  What did you do to increase angles B and C?  Can we create this triangle by following your steps?
TRIANGLE #2 Start with triangle ABC so that...
  •  A = 60 degrees
  •  B = 60 degrees
  •  C = 60 degrees
  • "a" = 8
  • "b" = 8
  • "c" = 8
Now create triangle #2 to match angle and side length dimensions below.  What are the missing values ?
  •  A = 20 degrees
  •  B =  ?   degrees
  •  C = 60 degrees
  • "a" = ?
  • "b" = 8
  • "c" = 3
Explain clearly in steps how you created this triangle.   What did you do to reduce the angle A from 60 to 20 degrees?  What were the effects of this?  How does angle B change?  How did "c" reduce from 8 to 3?  What were the effects of this?  Can we create the triangle by following your steps ?
TRIANGLE # 3 Start with triangle ABC so that...
  •  A = 60 degrees
  •  B = 60 degrees
  •  C = 60 degrees
  • "a" = 8
  • "b" = 8
  • "c" = 8
Now create triangle #3 to match angle and side length dimensions below.   Uncover the missing values?
  •  A =  45 degrees
  •  B =   ? degrees
  •  C =  90 degrees
  • "a" = ?
  • "b" = 7
  • "c" = ?
Explain Clearly in Steps How You Created This Triangle.   What did you do to reduce the angle A from 60 to 20 degrees?  What were the effects of this?  How does angle B change?  How did "c" reduce from 8 to 3?  What were the effects of this?  I should be able to create this triangle by following your steps.
TRIANGLE # 4 Start with triangle ABC so that...
  •  A = 60 degrees
  •  B = 60 degrees
  •  C = 60 degrees
  • "a" = 8
  • "b" = 8
  • "c" = 8
Now create triangle #4 to match angle and side length dimensions below.   Uncover the missing value?
  •  A =  60 degrees
  •  B =   ? degrees
  •  C =  90 degrees
  • "a" = ?
  • "b" = 7
  • "c" = ?
Explain Clearly in Steps How You Created This Triangle.  Draw triangles showing how the angles and lengths are changing and moving into the correct amounts.  I should be able to create this triangle by following your steps.

TRIANGLE # 5

Start with triangle ABC so that...
  •  A = 60 degrees
  •  B = 60 degrees
  •  C = 60 degrees
  • "a" = 8
  • "b" = 8
  • "c" = 8
Now create triangle #5 to match angle and side length dimensions below.   Uncover the missing values?
  •  A =  125 degrees
  •  B =   ? degrees
  •  C =   ? degrees
  • "a" = 4
  • "b" = ?
  • "c" = 8
Explain clearly in steps how you created this triangle.  Draw triangles showing how the angles and lengths are changing and moving into the correct amounts.  I should be able to create this triangle by following your steps.
