5: Construct the Perpendicular Line Through a Point on the Line

Construct a Perpendicular Line Through a Point on the Line

Given Construct: The line perpendicular to through point B Procedure: 1. Open your textbook to page 381. Follow the directions for construction 5. Your points will be named differently than in the textbook. Alternatively: 1. Make a circle centered at B with a radius of AB. 2. Mark both points of intersection (A is already marked. Label the other point with the intersect tool). You now have B as the midpoint of segment AC. 3. Now that you have located the midpoint, make a perpendicular bisector through segment A (as you did in construction 4). 4. Finished? use the angle measure tool to confirm that your construction is perpendicular to at point B. Use the segment measure tool to confirm that segment AB is bisected. 5. See if your construction passes the drag test: move one of the given points to determine if your perpendicular stays perpendicular when one of your given points is dragged to a new location. Remember:
