Measures of Center Comparison
Click the checkboxes to show three different measures of center for the x-values of the points.
Drag the points to see how the mean, median, and root mean square (RMS) react.
Things to notice:
- The mean and RMS are sensitive. They adapt to every x value change.
- The median is resistant. It only responds to changes in the middle x values.
- The RMS treats negative x-values as if they were positive.
- The RMS measures the average size of the numbers, ignoring the sign.
