CAS View
The CAS View Toolbar
The CAS View Toolbar provides a range of CAS Tools that can be operated with your pointer. They allow you to evaluate input and perform calculations.
Note: Always enter your input before you select the desired CAS Tool. In this way, the tool can be applied directly to your input.
Familiarize yourself with GeoGebra's CAS Tools
1. | | Type f(x) := x ^ 2 - 4 into the CAS Input and select the Keep Input tool in order to define a quadratic polynomial.
|
2. | | Type f(x) into the next row of the CAS View and select the Factor tool to find the factors of the function.
|
3. | | Enter f(x) into the next row and select the Derivative tool to calculate the derivative of the function.

Selected CAS Tools you might want to try out as well
| Evaluate Use the Evaluate tool in order to calculate and simplify the input in a symbolic way. |
| Numeric Use the Numeric tool in order to calculate the input numerically and get the result in decimal notation. |
| Keep Input Use the Keep Input tool in order to keep and check the input. Hint: This is very useful if you don’t want your input to be simplified automatically. |
| Expand
Use the Expand tool in order to expand an expression
Example: Applying the Expand tool to the input 2*(a + b) results in the output 2a + 2b. |
| Substitute Use the Substitute tool in order substitute numbers for variables in an expression. After applying the tool to an expression, a dialog window appears, allowing you to enter the values you want to substitute. |
