Pythagorean Tree
In class, we constructed a Symmetric Pythagorean Tree using the following instructions for the iterative feedback loop:
Seed: A square.
Iteration Rule: Attach an isosceles right triangle with the hypotenuse along the top of the square then attach a smaller square to each free leg of the triangle.
The applet below constructs variations on this theme out to Stage 9 using the slider for n. Drag the red dot to reposition the right angle in the triangle. When the red dot is perfectly centered over the bottom square you will produce a Symmetric Pythagorean Tree. When the red dot is in any other position you will end up with a Asymmetric Pythagorean Tree.
