Task #14: Area of Similar Figures

Follow the steps below to create a widget that demonstrates scale factors for the area of figures. 1. Toolbar ImageCreate a slider. Change the "Min" and "Max" settings to 0 and 5. (Leave all the other settings alone.) 2. Toolbar Image Click "Dilate from Point," then select the pentagon ABCDE, then the point A, then type in the scale factor "a". (Without quotation marks.) 3. Toolbar Image Move the slider to the right and left to experiment with dilations of ABCDE. 4. Move the slider to the position 3.5, and then answer the question below.

From the menu to the left, what is the area of ABCDE? What's the area of the larger image (it might be named poly1')? Divide the larger area by the smaller area, and explain your result in the context of what you learned in Chapter 10.
